Frequently Asked Questiosn

What can I expect for my first appointment?

The first appointment will start with filling out paperwork.  Then, you and your physical therapist will review your health history and gather objective measurements relevant to your condition, assessing your strength, range of motion, and anatomical structure.  You will begin treatment, be educated on your diagnoses, and be given home exercises to complete between sessions.

What should I wear?

Physical therapy is an active experience.  Please dress in loose, comfortable clothing and sneakers.

How long is a typical session?

Each session lasts approximately one hour.  If this will be your first appointment, please arrive 10 minutes early to complete the necessary paperwork.

How many visits will I need?

This is dependent on the individual and the diagnoses.  You can expect to come to physical therapy 1-3 times per week.

What will I have to do after physical therapy?

After your first session, you will be given a list of stretches and/or exercises to complete at home until your next session.  Home exercises are equally as important as physical therapy during your recovery.

Do I need a prescription to receive physical therapy?

The state of New Jersey does not require a medical prescription in order to receive physical therapy.  However, many insurance companies limit the number of sessions they cover if the sessions are not prescribed.
